Steve Ballmer's entrance to a Microsoft conference is already embedded in folklore (see earlier Groom News Article 1/6/07).
Here somebody or company (hmmm?!?!) have cleverly used a competitior design style to send up the dynamic Mr Ballmer and Microsoft's Zune.
The web is allowing expression and evoking emotions like no other medium - and it keeps evolving.

Your Favourite Video Is A Commercial
The Webby Awards are the Oscars for the world online with awards going for all sorts of categories, such as best actress going to the girl from the 'Lonleygirl15' videos.
They are obviously highly regarded and sought after in the world of online and now amongst others, one of last year's big winners, Unilever (with their Dove range)are back at a Webby held summit to tell you why it is crucial for modern campaigns to do well online as well as off.
In the video 'Your Favourite Video Is A Commercial', it explores an approach to advertising and marketing that takes a much more holistic view of branded products that can successfully interact with a brand's consumers. Rather than as in the past, when it has been a process of trying to interrupt the consumers to listen to a message, which frankly, unless it is great, people just don't (and won't) give it the time of day. This new way encourages people to take the positive from a brand and if the brand is strong enough, helps the brand also stand up to the negative and go with it, as one of Microsoft's media agencies shows us.

It is said that branding first originated when farmers branded their cattle - now people are branding themselves in the same way (and I don't mean tattoos). It could open a whole new world of logo design! "Less painful" would also join the wish list of clients!

What is the future of Digital? Well each year the CES show in Vegas trys to give us an insight and who better to give us that knowledge than Bill Gates (who is to retire in July). He predicts that technology in 'The second digital decade will be more focused on connecting people. Those applications will run on the Internet, in the cloud as we say, and use the best of software services.'
This is probably his biggest admission yet that the market is moving away from Microsoft's longtime core money-maker, packaged software and to a more internet based set of applications. With the ever increasing use of technolgies such as AJAX and the increasing band width the barriers to working completely online are coming down. It is going to be an interesting next decade that is for sure. What happens, we will just have to wait to find out.

If you kept an eye on the Christmas charts over the holidays you may have noticed something a little more festive about them than they have been in previous years.
Even though technology such as i-pods and MP3 players is not fresh news the fact that online downloads more than doubled in Britain in the last week of 2007 could mean that the face of music and music retails could have changed forever.
It will be interesting to see how brands such as HMV deal with the shift to online purchases, having already been hit hard by the piracy on MP3 music. What can they do to offer their customers a better purchasing experience through them? We will have to wait to find out.
